"Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it." Corinthians 10: 12-13
We live in a fallen world. As 1 Peter 5:8 points out, the devil will never grow tired of trying to pull us away from living the life our savior Jesus modeled for us. As Hebrews 2:18 states, Jesus was also tempted by the devil, and therefore knows how to help us through the temptations we encounter. Jesus knows what we go through!!
Sometimes , when I feel overwhelmed , or tempted, I just whisper the name of Jesus over and over again. There is power in Jesus's name.
I love the song "Strong Enough" by Matthew West. Here is some of the song text. "You must, You must think I'm strong, to give me what I'm going through. Well forgive me, forgive me if I'm wrong, but this looks more than I can do..on my own. I know I'm not strong enough to be, everything that I'm supposed to be.. I give up, I'm not strong enough. Hands of mercy won't you cover me, Lord right now I'm asking You to be strong enough, strong enough, for the both of us."
On our own, we cannot battle the evil and temptations of the world. But with God, "He is strong when we are weak". "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13
The other verse that I felt would help to unpack 1 Corinthians 10:12-13 is the reminder from the book of James (James 1:2-3)" My brethren, count it all a joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that testing of your faith produces patience."
My Prayer: Jesus, thank you for the promise you gave in John 16:33; "These things I have spoken to you , that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation:but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." Thank you for not allowing any temptation to be more than I can bear. I feel safe in Your arms. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Elaine, thank you for sharing your powerful strategy of just whispering the powerful name of our Jesus in your moment of weakness. May He make you STRONG to stand. Loved this!

The prayer was the reminder that I needed for this day. Too much of me and not enough of my relying on His strength Remembering to count it all joy can be a challenge-but when we do...what a opportunity for God to show Himself strong and for us to see how we can change our perspective.
